MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Project Engineer to support the development phase of natural gas sustainment and growth capital projects ($1–5M range) in line with AACE guidelines. Our client is one of the largest energy providers in British Columbia, delivering natural gas and electricity to homes, businesses, and industry across the province. The role involves coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring deliverables are met, and preparing estimate packages to support execution. 

Contract duration: 1 year
Location: Surrey (preferred) or Remote

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare semi-detailed schedules and budgets to deliver estimate packages (Class 5/4/3) on time and within budget.
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders (engineering, operations, lands, environmental, regulatory, etc.) to ensure all deliverables are defined and completed.
• Write and finalize Class 5 reports and presentation materials.
• Lead project development and risk workshops, ensuring alignment on scope and execution strategies.
• Develop cost estimates, including contingency analysis, using internal tools.
• Track lessons learned and leverage as-built project data to refine estimates.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 5–10 years’ experience in oil & gas, with 7–8 years ideal (natural gas assets, infrastructure, or related projects).
• Registered P.Eng. with EGBC (strong EITs may be considered).
• Strong knowledge of natural gas systems and related infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead meetings, coordinate across teams, and communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
• Solid project management skills: detail-oriented, deadline-driven, able to manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with piping systems or compression stations.
• Previous experience preparing Class 5 estimates.
• Prior work with utilities or large-scale capital projects.
• PMP designation (asset, not required).
