MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for a Project Engineer / Project Manager to support the development of a large-scale natural gas power plant project.

This role focuses on leading early-stage project development through to detailed design readiness, supporting a multi-unit gas turbine facility. The successful candidate will drive technical direction, coordinate stakeholders, and support project advancement through key development milestones.

This position is well suited to a senior engineer or project professional with strong experience in thermal generation, rotating equipment, or gas infrastructure who enjoys working in early-stage project environments and shaping projects from concept through execution.


Responsibilities

  • Lead front-end development from feasibility and concept selection through to detailed design readiness
  • Define project scope, requirements, and basis of design to support key project decisions
  • Provide technical direction across all systems including gas supply, turbine-generator packages, electrical interconnect, and balance of plant
  • Coordinate internal teams and external partners to advance engineering design and project deliverables
  • Support development of execution strategies, schedules, and budgets aligned with project objectives
  • Prepare bid packages, evaluate proposals, and support selection of EPC partners
  • Manage engineering deliverables and ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and cost
  • Lead project meetings, risk workshops, and maintain risk and issue logs
  • Track project progress and support timely decision-making through clear reporting
  • Review engineering documentation and ensure quality and completeness
  • Provide technical input and oversight during design development and planning phases

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in project engineering or project management within energy infrastructure
  • Experience with gas turbine power plants, compressor stations, or heavy rotating equipment
  • Strong experience across design, development, and construction phases
  • Proven experience supporting front-end development (Pre-FEED / FEED) and project scoping
  • Strong understanding of thermal generation systems and plant configuration
  • Experience working within EPC environments and managing engineering deliverables
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC, or eligible for registration
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and project coordination tools

Assets

  • Operations experience within power generation or gas facilities
  • Experience with GE turbine equipment
  • Experience with AACE Class 4 / Class 3 estimating and project development frameworks
  • PMP designation or equivalent

Additional Information

  • Remote role within Canada, with occasional travel to Surrey, BC (approximately once per quarter)
  • Must be able to work PST hours
  • This role is tied to project development; extension is dependent on project progression
  • Opportunity to transition into execution phase roles as the project evolves
  • Candidates must obtain their own Permit to Practice prior to start
