Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a SCADA Engineer EIT for our client, a leading energy provider, to support the design, configuration, and commissioning of SCADA systems in transmission substations. This position will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions for electrical utility projects.

This is a hybrid contract role based in Burnaby, BC, with a length of 1 Year.

Role Summary

You will perform supervised engineering tasks for assignments of limited scope and complexity. The successful candidate will develop safe engineering solutions, ensure compliance with industry standards, and support project execution through all stages of SCADA system design, testing, and implementation.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop safe and effective SCADA engineering designs for electrical utility substations (12kV–500kV).
• Prepare detailed design packages, including device point assignments, RTU configurations, network setups, and material specifications.
• Create documentation such as evaluation reports, design bases, calculations, test plans, and hazard logs according to established engineering practices.
• Perform configuration, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of RTUs, gateway devices, user interfaces, network switches/routers, and other IEDs.
• Conduct field visits for construction support, quality control, and commissioning activities.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and review of engineering deliverables prepared by others.
• Assist with project planning, estimating, and progress tracking to meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
• Maintain project documentation and sealed deliverables in compliance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements

Must-Haves:

• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering.
• Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or equivalent at the time of submission.
• Ability to work on-site in a hybrid office setting.
• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.
• Proficiency with industry design/analysis software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-Haves:

• 3–5 years of experience in automation or control systems.
• Experience with DNP3, networking protocols, cybersecurity, or M2M networking applications.
• Experience programming GE Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
• Knowledge of NERC standards.
