Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Generation & Microgrids

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our client’s team, specializing in medium voltage diesel stations, substations, and microgrid integration. This is a contract role that offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex power generation projects, incorporating renewable energy, battery storage, and microgrid controllers.

About the Role

As a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for developing innovative and efficient electrical solutions for power generation systems. You will provide technical expertise, lead design reviews, and ensure project success by maintaining safety, quality, and compliance with industry standards.

Location
Burnaby, BC (hybrid option out of Burnaby – remote candidates can apply but are not first preference)

Key Responsibilities

• Develop engineering solutions for medium to high-complexity power generation projects.

• Provide technical details for integrating diesel stations and substations into microgrid systems.

• Participate in weekly design review meetings, collaborating with internal teams and subcontractors.

• Conduct electrical and controls design package reviews, ensuring adherence to industry and project standards.

• Support construction, commissioning, and field reviews as needed.

• Ensure all designs align with safety, performance, and cost objectives.

Qualifications & Experience

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

• 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on power generation and utility systems.

• Strong knowledge of medium voltage diesel station and substation construction, maintenance, and operations.

• Experience with renewables, battery energy storage, and microgrid controllers.

• Proficiency in engineering software, CAD, and electrical design tools.

• Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and protection & control designs.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

Preferred Skills

• HMI/PLC experience.

• Background in project management, estimating, and commissioning
