Our client is seeking a Senior Overhead Line Design Engineer to join their growing Transmission Lines Engineering Division. This team provides complete engineering solutions for new and existing transmission lines ranging from 60kV to 500kV, including overhead lines, underground cable lines, and submarine cables. Select teams also specialize in telecommunication fiber optic wire and tower designs, as well as managing compatible land use within transmission rights-of-way.
The division focuses on multiple engineering disciplines, including cable design, civil design, electrical design, geotechnical design, overhead line design, and structural design. In addition to serving as the Professional of Record for in-house engineering and design services, the team also acts as Owner’s Engineer for design work completed by external engineering partners.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Overhead Line Design Engineer, you will work within a multidisciplinary team to design efficient and reliable electrical transmission lines. You will coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. On select projects, you may also take on the role of Project Engineer to drive project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

• Design 60kV to 500kV overhead electrical transmission lines, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and constructability requirements, including route selection, line layout, structure configuration, and conductor selection.
• Act as the Professional of Record (POR) for various transmission projects.
• Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and RFP/RFT documents for material and equipment procurement and installation.
• Provide technical guidance, support, and mentorship to engineers and technical staff.
• Review work from internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to engineering best practices.
• Serve as Owner's Engineer, reviewing external engineering partners’ designs to ensure compliance with standards, good design practices, and constructability criteria.
• Collaborate with project managers to manage scope, schedule, cost, and technical risks, ensuring seamless integration with the existing transmission system.
• Develop design and review plans, resource strategies, and execution approaches, working closely with construction, contract management, engineering, quality management, and field operations teams.
• Apply Safety by Design principles to all engineering work.
• Address site queries, attend site meetings, and conduct inspections during project construction phases.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including completion packages, records, and regulatory compliance documentation.
• Ensure commitment to project teams and coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary project members.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and industry standards.

What You Bring

• Education & Certification:
  • Degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or another Canadian engineering regulatory body.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transmission line design.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Expertise in PLS-CADD for line design and Plan & Profile drawing generation.
  • Proficiency in PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower is an asset.
• Communication & Organizational Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal communication, technical writing abilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Additional Requirements:
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
