Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our general contracting team in Burnaby, specializing in ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) construction projects. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for managing the entire estimating process, from initial cost assessments to final bid submissions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in ICI projects, strong financial acumen, and excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cost Estimating: Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for ICI construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Bid Management: Oversee the preparation and submission of bids, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness in accordance with project requirements and deadlines.
• Preconstruction Services: Provide early-stage cost planning, budgeting, and feasibility analysis to support project development and ensure alignment with client expectations.
• Quantity Takeoffs: Perform comprehensive quantity takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other documentation to ensure precise cost calculations.
• Subcontractor and Supplier Coordination: Source and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure adherence to project specifications.
• Budget and Cost Control: Collaborate with project managers to establish and monitor project budgets, ensuring cost control throughout the construction process.
• Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks related to cost, schedule, and design, and provide strategies to mitigate these risks in both the preconstruction and construction phases.
• Value Engineering: Identify and propose value engineering options that provide cost-effective solutions while maintaining the integrity of the project’s design and scope.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all estimates, tender documents, and correspondence, ensuring compliance with company procedures and project requirements.
• Project Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment between estimates, project scope, and timelines.
• Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators, guiding them through the estimating process and fostering their professional development.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of estimating experience in ICI construction projects, with a proven track record of managing complex, large-scale projects.
• Education: A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Software: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage Estimating, Timberline, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
• Knowledge: In-depth understanding of ICI construction methods, materials, and building codes, as well as experience with various contract types (lump sum, cost-plus, design-build).
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analysis.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present cost estimates and bid proposals clearly to clients and stakeholders.
• Leadership: Strong leadership and team collaboration skills, with experience mentoring junior estimators and working closely with project teams.
• Negotiation Skills: Demonstrated ability to negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
• Time Management: Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with large-scale ICI projects in Burnaby and the surrounding region
• Knowledge of green building practices and LEED certification is an asset
• Familiarity with local subcontractor and supplier networks
• PMP or PQS certification is an asset
