Job Title: Senior Estimator
Location: Delta, BC

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our civil construction team. As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for managing and preparing accurate and comprehensive estimates for various civil infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges, highways, earthworks, utilities, and other general civil contracting works. You will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure cost-effective and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Estimation: Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Ensure estimates align with project specifications, plans, and client requirements.
  • Bid Preparation: Develop competitive bids and proposals, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and completeness. Review tender documents, specifications, drawings, and addenda to ensure accurate bid submissions.
  • Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and challenges during the estimating process and suggest strategies to mitigate them. Prepare contingency plans where necessary.
  • Vendor/Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate bids from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring their proposals align with the project scope and budget.
  • Cost Control: Work closely with project managers and site teams to track project costs, monitor variances, and support change order preparation as needed.
  • Collaboration: Maintain effective communication with internal departments (project management, procurement, and operations) and external stakeholders (clients, consultants, subcontractors) throughout the estimation and bidding process.
  • Value Engineering: Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and functionality.
  • Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, material pricing, labor rates, and market conditions to ensure accurate estimates and competitive pricing.
  • Documentation: Maintain organized records of estimates, pricing data, and other relevant information for future reference and audits.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in civil construction estimating, with a focus on general contracting projects (roads, bridges, highways, earthworks, and utilities).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bid2Win, or similar) and advanced knowledge of MS Excel. Strong understanding of civil construction methods, materials, and processes.
  • Analytical Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate estimates and bids.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate complex information effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
