MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator (Industrial) on behalf of our client, a major construction organization with a strong portfolio of large-scale industrial projects.

This role will lead and support detailed mechanical estimating for major industrial construction projects, including large SMPEI scopes. The ideal candidate brings extensive dedicated estimating experience and familiarity with major industrial environments such as petrochemical, potash, LNG and similar large-scale construction projects.

Schedule: Hybrid – 3 days in office / 2 days from home

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed mechanical estimates and budgets for large industrial construction projects.

• Lead estimating efforts and support estimator teams on large industrial SMPEI estimates.

• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, contractual requirements and supplier bills of materials.

• Develop accurate estimates for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors and general conditions.

• Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors.

• Set up and maintain estimate data within estimating software and historical cost databases.

• Review estimates prior to tender close and identify key risks, strengths and closing strategies.

• Work with proposal teams and senior management to develop competitive tender submissions and obtain required approvals.

• Support estimating across multiple delivery models, including bid and tender, IPD and design-build projects.

• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, designers, contractors and clients.

• Participate in pre-planning activities and gather feedback on submitted quotations.

• Provide training and guidance to other estimators and support continuous improvement of estimating processes.

Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical construction and industrial estimating.

• Experience estimating mechanical construction projects with values up to $100M+.

• Knowledge of mechanical construction products, practices, standards and typical owner specifications.

• Experience preparing and pricing general expenses and general conditions.

• Understanding of mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, building and municipal codes and regulations.

• Degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or a related construction discipline, or certification in a mechanical trade.

• Strong organizational, communication and time-management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple estimating priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Must-Haves

• 8+ years of dedicated estimating experience.

• Strong mechanical estimating experience within large industrial construction environments.

• Familiarity with project types comparable to major petrochemical, potash and LNG developments, such as large-scale work in Fort Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan, Kitimat and other major Western Canadian industrial markets.

• Ability to prepare and evaluate detailed estimates for complex industrial mechanical scopes.

Nice-to-Haves

• InEight estimating software experience.

• Experience with comparable estimating platforms such as HeavyBid or Bid2Win.

• Experience with Trimble AutoBid Mechanical.

• Previous Senior Estimator experience or formal/informal estimating leadership experience.

• Production or field operations experience.

• AutoCAD experience.

• PQS, CET, P.Eng or mechanical trade designation.

• Knowledge of engineering software and related engineering practices.
