Role Overview

This opportunity is for a Mechanical Piping Engineer to support capital and maintenance projects in hydroelectric and thermal generation facilities. The role involves designing auxiliary systems, conducting condition assessments for asset management, and providing scoping and operational support. Work will focus on HVAC and industrial piping systems including water, air, and oil systems for projects ranging from small-scale initiatives to multi-discipline projects exceeding $100 million.

This is a part-time role (20–25 hours/week) well suited for professionals with other contracts or those seeking flexible remote work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a safety leader in all aspects of project delivery.

  • Serve as a design engineer and Professional of Record (PoR) for mechanical systems.

  • Review and accept work completed by external consultants or contractors.

  • Collaborate with electrical, civil, controls, operations, and project management teams to develop integrated solutions.

  • Provide mentorship and technical direction to junior engineers and support staff.

  • Lead multi-discipline projects with significant mechanical scope, including planning, budgeting, and technical integration.

  • Conduct field investigations and site visits as required.

  • Prepare design calculations, issued for construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports.


Required Qualifications

  • Registered P.Eng & Permit to Practice (P2P) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.

  • Strong background in piping engineering.

  • Class 5 driver’s license.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of ASME, CSA, and ASHRAE codes as well as BC-specific regulations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • HVAC and hydroelectric project experience.

  • Proficiency in HVAC and piping design tools such as HAP, AFT FATHOM, and CAESAR II.

  • Extensive experience managing HVAC and industrial piping projects from concept through commissioning.


Additional Notes

  • Candidates must hold their own sole practitioner Permit to Practice or access their firm’s Permit to Practice with EGBC.

  • Use of Digital Sign and Seal Technology may be required (Notarius subscription).

  • Remote candidates must be available to work PST hours and may need to travel for occasional site visits.
