Job Title: Telecom Project Engineer
Work Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Duration: June 16, 2025 – June 15, 2026
Safety Sensitive: Yes (D&A Testing Required)
 


Position Summary

Seeking a Telecom Project Engineer to manage complex infrastructure project engineering, including scope, schedule, and cost. The role involves leading engineering efforts (including oversight of third-party work), managing technical risks, and ensuring successful project delivery. Occasional travel across BC is required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering knowledge to provide innovative solutions for medium to highly complex infrastructure projects.

  • Develop designs, interpret specifications, and resolve engineering problems independently.

  • Lead and coordinate multi-discipline teams; contribute to project planning and quality control.

  • Recommend safe engineering solutions to meet cost, quality, and time targets.

  • Participate in engineering standards development and provide mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Act as a point of contact for stakeholders and ensure technical documentation meets project requirements.

  • Ensure engineering deliverables are compliant with professional standards and applicable regulations.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems, Systems Engineering, Control & Communications preferred).

  • License: Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC.

  • Experience:

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in transmission power systems, telecom networks, control systems, cybersecurity, or systems engineering.

  • 4+ years leading/coordinating multi-discipline design teams on medium to large projects.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in CAD and design/analysis software.

  • Strong knowledge of telecom systems: microwave, fibre optics, power line carrier, antennas, radios, battery systems, remote buildings, and generators.

  • Project Leadership:

  • Strong understanding of project impact on transmission systems and ability to manage multiple disciplines/stakeholders.

  • Experience overseeing third-party engineering deliverables is considered an asset.


    Additional Skills

    • Familiarity with project management principles and lifecycle processes.

    • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication skills.

    • Conflict resolution and stakeholder influence capabilities.

    • Experience on large construction sites (e.g., hydro stations, substations, transmission lines) is an asset.

    • Full project life cycle experience (conceptual design to commissioning) is a plus.


    Additional Information

    • Travel across BC required: Up to 3 site visits per year, with up to 2 overnight stays.

    • Preference for local candidates or those open to relocating.

    • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing.

    • Professional engineers must have (or operate under) a Permit to Practice in compliance with EGBC bylaws.
