MatchBox consulting is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer for one of our clients who are a well-established engineering firm dedicated to delivering creative and innovative solutions for complex infrastructure projects. 

With a multidisciplinary team across Western and Northern Canada, our client is expanding the structural consulting offerings in BC and seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the growth of the BC team. If you’re passionate about building architectural structures, mass timber, and integrated project delivery, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact and help build out the team.

Location: Burnaby or Langley, BC (Hybrid work model)

Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Development:

• Lead the establishment of the Building Structural Engineering discipline in BC.
• Develop and mentor a team of engineers and technologists while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
• Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and cultivating key client relationships.

2. Project Management & Design Expertise:

• Oversee the design and implementation of building structural projects, including Mass Timber, Concrete, Steel, and Wood design for institutional, residential, and commercial projects.
• Lead the preparation of contract documents, construction drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
• Manage schematic and detailed designs, ensuring quality and consistency with company standards.
• Perform periodic site visits, attend client meetings, and provide technical oversight.

3. Collaboration & Coordination:

• Work closely with other building design disciplines (Geotechnical, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical) to ensure seamless project execution.
• Liaise regularly with Structural teams across offices in BC and beyond to ensure project continuity.
• Contribute to large-scale project pursuits and manage when external design services are required.

4. Business Development & Networking:

• Drive growth in the BC market through active participation in business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship-building activities.
• Represent the firm at industry events to foster connections and raise the profile of the structural team in BC.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Certifications: Registered as a P.Eng with a Canadian engineering regulatory body, and currently holding Designated Structural Engineer (IStructE) status or eligible to register.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in building structural design, with expertise in Mass Timber, Concrete, Steel, and Wood design for institutional, residential, or commercial projects.
• Experience with local codes and bylaws, including the National Building Code of Canada and the BC Building Code.
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.
• Strong experience coordinating with other building design disciplines.
• Business development experience with a focus on building long-term client relationships.
