• Location: Langley Twp, British Columbia
  • Type: Direct Hire
  • Job #13756
  • Salary: CA$125,000 Per Hour

On behalf of our client, a well-established industrial contractor in the Lower Mainland, MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced site superintendent. Our client has recently launched a new Heavy Civil / Heavy Industrial division to support a growing portfolio of infrastructure and industrial projects across British Columbia.

This division focuses on self-performed and subcontracted heavy civil scopes for industrial clients, marine terminals, and partnered infrastructure work. Projects typically range from $1M–$10M and involve hands-on field leadership rather than large, layered site teams.

This role is ideal for a Superintendent who has come up through mid-sized contractors and is comfortable owning the site, making decisions, and being accountable for safety, schedule, quality, and cost.

Some travel within BC is required depending on project location.

Position Summary

The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This individual serves as the primary on-site leader and point of contact, coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, enforcing quality standards, and maintaining strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, safety personnel, trades, inspectors, and clients, ensuring clear communication, accurate documentation, and proactive issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Safety

  • Act as the primary on-site contact for all incidents (minor and major)

  • Lead accident and incident investigations with support from safety leadership

  • Notify senior leadership of medical aid incidents, major accidents, or third-party involvement

  • Monitor subcontractor safety compliance and enforce site-specific safety plans

  • Coordinate utility locates and One Calls

  • Ensure Notices of Project (NOPs) and WorkSafeBC documentation are available on site

  • Conduct weekly site inspections and safety meetings

  • Maintain pre-job safety boards, OHS manuals, WHMIS binders, and required documentation

  • Verify weekly safety paperwork totals and crew compliance

Cost Control, AP/AR & Time

  • Participate in monthly cost, billing, and schedule reviews with the Project Manager

  • Submit clear, accurate weekly quantity reports

  • Identify and report extra work, including budget impacts

  • Prepare and submit Extra Work Orders (EWOs) with supporting documentation

  • Track job costs and communicate variances proactively

Scheduling

  • Develop the baseline schedule with the Project Manager at project start

  • Manage short-term and look-ahead schedules

  • Provide weekly schedule updates and maintain shared access to current schedules

Job Start-Up & Closeout

  • Review contracts, handover documents, and scopes prior to mobilization

  • Participate in formal job handover meetings

  • Coordinate job start-up activities, including procurement and subcontractor onboarding

  • Confirm scope completion and support substantial completion milestones

  • Manage as-built drawings, testing records, and closeout documentation

  • Lead lessons-learned tracking (“Good, Bad, Better”) and complete closeout checklists

Day-to-Day Site Management

  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence (minimum 8 hours/day)

  • Coordinate multiple projects based on workload and priorities

  • Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager

  • Communicate scope changes and field issues promptly

  • Coordinate subcontractors, equipment, inspections, and deliveries

  • Enforce quality control standards and verify workmanship

  • Track remaining work and production against estimates

  • Resolve field issues with subcontractors, engineers, inspectors, and clients

  • Schedule equipment moves and manage site logistics

  • Mentor and lead crews and supporting site staff

  • Maintain permits, One Calls, inspections, and site compliance

  • Build and maintain strong on-site client relationships

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5+ years of construction supervision experience

  • Minimum 2 years in heavy civil, heavy industrial, or infrastructure environments

  • Proven ability to run projects independently from start to finish

  • First Aid / CPR Level 2

  • WHMIS and site safety training

  • Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and equipment

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field

  • Experience with industrial clients, terminals, or marine / infrastructure-adjacent projects

  • Additional safety certifications (confined space, lockout/tagout, etc.)

  • Familiarity with project management and scheduling software

  • Experience working across multiple sites or traveling projects
