Engineer – Telecommunications & Commissioning

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Telecom Engineer on behalf of the largest utility provider in British Columbia. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with telecommunications and commissioning experience to support critical utility infrastructure projects while working in a hybrid environment based in Burnaby, BC.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing telecom equipment commissioning test results, producing Test Report Cover Sheets (TRCS), reviewing commissioning engineering standards, and supporting a variety of project-related engineering activities. Occasional travel to sites across British Columbia may be required.

Must-Have Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in a relevant engineering field
• University degree in Applied Science or Engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
• Valid Permit to Practice (P2P) through EGBC (individual or employer)
• Commissioning experience
• Strong networking/IP knowledge
• Telecommunications engineering background preferred (electrical engineering backgrounds will also be considered)
• Experience with Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) equipment

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Utility industry experience
• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards

Key Responsibilities

• Review commissioning test results for telecommunications equipment
• Produce Test Report Cover Sheets (TRCS)
• Review commissioning engineering standards and documentation
• Support engineering and project execution activities
• Develop and review engineering solutions, designs, and technical documentation
• Assist with project planning, scheduling, reporting, and quality management activities
• Support construction quality control and design compliance reviews when required
• Collaborate with senior engineering teams to resolve technical issues and manage engineering risk

Technical Requirements

• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards
• Ability to use standard engineering design and analysis software
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
