MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Transmission Cable Engineer to join a well-established and highly regarded utility organization in the Lower Mainland. This is a key technical role within a collaborative engineering team, offering long-term career stability, strong compensation, and the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will take ownership of complex transmission cable engineering work, supporting both capital projects and ongoing system reliability. You’ll be involved in technical problem-solving, design oversight, and project execution, while also contributing to mentorship and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve complex engineering challenges related to transmission cable systems
- Develop innovative engineering solutions and apply advanced technical approaches
- Lead and manage medium to large-scale projects and work packages
- Prepare technical specifications, standards, and cost estimates
- Provide technical and field support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities
- Review work from internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure quality and compliance with engineering standards
- Act as a technical lead within multidisciplinary project teams
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Support and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development
- Act as Owner’s Engineer on projects involving third-party consultants and vendors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (recognized in Canada)
- Registered as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, or eligible for registration
- Candidates at the Technical Professional level (not yet registered but with completed education assessment) will also be considered
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the electric utility or related industry
- Experience with transmission cable systems (design, manufacturing, or installation) preferred
- Strong communication, technical writing, and stakeholder management skills
- Proven experience working in multidisciplinary project teams
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Transmission cable system design, installation, and maintenance
- Cable hydraulic systems design and testing
- Thermo-mechanical analysis (e.g., sheath fatigue)
- Familiarity with tools such as Cymedist, COMSOL, or Python
- Knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, IEC)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $120,000 – $133,000
- Typically offered within the mid-range depending on experience
