Transmission Engineer

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Transmission Engineer to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in transmission line design, utility infrastructure, and power system projects.

The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of transmission line projects while supporting engineering, construction, commissioning, and operational activities across the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs and technical solutions for transmission line and underground cable projects.
• Prepare engineering deliverables including specifications, design reports, calculations, estimates, test plans, hazard logs, and technical evaluations.
• Support projects from conceptual design through construction, testing, and commissioning.
• Prepare design work packages, including scope definitions, schedules, and level-of-effort estimates.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical studies related to transmission systems.
• Provide technical support during construction and conduct field reviews as required.
• Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as Professional of Record where applicable.
• Review engineering designs prepared by others and provide technical guidance.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Manage assigned design tasks, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and ability to work under a Permit to Practice.
• Minimum 4 years of progressive engineering experience.
• Experience with transmission lines, substations, protection and control systems, or related utility infrastructure.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Experience working on projects through the full project lifecycle, from design through commissioning.
• Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering design standards, and industry analysis software.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Technical Experience

Experience in the design and analysis of transmission facilities operating from 60kV to 500kV, including:

• Overhead transmission lines
• Underground transmission cables
• Electrical clearances
• Grounding systems
• Lightning protection
• Electromagnetic and electrostatic field studies
• AC interference and induction studies
• Switching and transient overvoltage analysis
• Ampacity calculations
• Radio interference and audible noise assessments
• Soil resistivity and arcing studies
• EMTP and related transmission system analysis

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous utility industry experience.
• Experience with telecom, protection and control, or transmission line projects.
• Knowledge of utility project delivery processes and engineering design practices.
• Site experience on major infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, or generation facilities.
• Experience coordinating work across multiple engineering disciplines.
