How did British Columbia’s labour market perform in June? The province’s unemployment rate is up 0.6% from May, totalling 5.6%. The labour force expanded by 15,100 individuals, and employment decreased by 2,600 jobs, resulting in an increase of 29,700 jobs compared to the same period last year.
There was a rise of 3,700 full-time positions and a decline of 6,300 part-time roles compared to May. Notably, full-time employment saw positive growth in the 55+ and 15 to 24 age groups, while declining among those aged between 25 to 54.
Employment decreased in both the private (-8,300) and public (-1,300) sectors while the number of self-employed individuals was up (+6,900).
