MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer /Designer on behalf of our client, a well-established engineering consulting firm based in Burnaby, BC. About the Role
The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for designing building mechanical systems, managing projects, and fostering client relationships. This role is client-facing and requires both technical design expertise and project management skills to oversee small to medium-sized projects, write proposals, develop budgets, and assign tasks to junior team members. The ideal candidate has a background in building mechanical systems design with an emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Building Systems Design

• Create conceptual designs, cost estimates, and business cases for building system upgrades.
• Prepare detailed design and technical documentation, using engineering calculations to achieve effective solutions.
• Coordinate procurement documentation and liaise with owners on requirements.
• Ensure project execution aligns with design intent through field reviews and construction oversight.

Project Management

• Manage all project phases, including resource planning, budgeting, scope management, and change management.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

Marketing and Business Development

• Prepare technical responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
• Maintain and build client relationships, managing key accounts.
• Promote additional services within the team and to clients.

Qualifications and Experience

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification.
• Minimum 6-10 years of experience for Intermediate level; over 10 years for Senior level.
• Background in mechanical building systems design within engineering consulting.
• Experience with commercial and institutional facilities, HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit experience is an asset).
• Applied knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and climate-focused design practices.
