MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for one of our clients who are a global engineering consultancy specializing in innovative and sustainable solutions for the built environment. The company provides multidisciplinary expertise in areas such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering, energy modeling, building performance, and sustainability consulting.
The Associate oversees and manages their designated Project Design Team, ensuring the team works effectively and achieves its goals. They regularly evaluate staffing needs, assign tasks efficiently, and align responsibilities with team members’ skill sets. By offering technical guidance and management support, the Associate ensures effective design decision-making and fosters accountability within the team.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Management Team to provide performance evaluations and updates on all design staff.
- Holds regular meetings with team members to address concerns, resolve issues, and implement actionable solutions.
- Prepares workload forecasts for upcoming projects, tracks progress, and updates systems with information about prospective projects, coordinating efforts with the Marketing Team.
- Recommends task distribution based on team capacity and availability, ensuring efficient workload management.
- Represents the organization in meetings with project clients, stakeholders, and relevant associations, as well as liaising with municipal, provincial, and federal officials.
- Trains staff across all phases of the design process to maintain seamless operations during absences or vacations, using leadership and motivation to foster productivity and employee satisfaction.
- Develops and implements programs to enhance service quality, meet client expectations, reduce costs, and strengthen the company’s competitive position while promoting a culture of quality within the design team.
- Ensures robust quality control processes are in place and consistently performed by team members.
- Provides thorough field review services to confirm compliance with contract documents.
- Conducts root-cause analyses to address deviations from desired standards, identifying and implementing corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 6 years of design experience specializing in HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Control systems.
- Proven project management experience within the consulting engineering industry.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to guide and inspire teams.
- A university degree or college/technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional designations such as Professional Engineer (PEng), Applied Science Technologist (AScT), or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) are highly preferred.
- LEED® Accredited Professional designation is an asset and strongly desired.
