British Columbia Labour Force Statistics: July 2025 Unemployment Rate and Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in British Columbia increased to 5.9% in July 2025, up 0.3 percentage points from one month prior. Compared to June, employment fell by 16,300, while the labour force fell by 9,600, causing the increase in the unemployment rate. The province saw a loss of 29,300 full-time jobs while gaining 13,000 part-time positions. While employment rose for private sector workers (+1,500), it decreased for public sector (-14,500) and self-employed (-3,400) workers

At 5.9%, British Columbia had the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in Canada in July. Saskatchewan had the lowest rate at 5.0%, followed by both Manitoba and Quebec at 5.5%. Nova Scotia followed in fifth place at 7.0%, with New Brunswick (7.5%), Alberta (7.8%), Ontario (7.9%), Prince Edward Island (8.8%), and Newfound and Labrador (10.5%) following behind.
