• Location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Type: Direct Hire
  • Job #14010
  • Salary: CA$60,000 Per Hour

MatchBox Consulting is recruiting on behalf of a multidisciplinary engineering and infrastructure consulting firm delivering community-focused projects across Western Canada.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative Landscape Architecture and Urban Design team supporting projects across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. The group works on a wide range of projects, including streetscapes, parks, campgrounds, public realm improvements, mixed-use developments, and infrastructure-related landscapes, delivering work from early concept through construction and municipal acceptance.

This role is well-suited to a technically strong Landscape Architectural Technologist who enjoys producing construction documentation, coordinating with contractors, and spending time both in the field and in the studio supporting projects through construction.

The position has become a priority hire as the team continues to grow and manage an active portfolio of construction-phase work. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting senior staff and helping move projects efficiently through the technical and construction stages.

This is a hybrid role from our client’s Calgary office, with field visits throughout Calgary and surrounding regions during active construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support construction review activities, including pre-construction meetings, scheduled field reviews, and end-of-project walkthroughs
  • Conduct site observations to confirm general conformance with contract documents and municipal standards
  • Prepare concise field reports and track deficiencies, changes, and follow-up actions
  • Support contract administration activities, including review of shop drawings, contractor submittals, and RFIs
  • Assist with deficiency tracking and project close-out documentation, including CCC/FAC and municipal acceptance processes
  • Prepare and coordinate technical drawing packages and landscape contract documentation
  • Produce CAD drawings and maintain project documentation within established digital standards
  • Assist with quantity take-offs and preliminary cost estimates
  • Collaborate with landscape architects, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical details and support project delivery
  • Maintain communication with project managers and contractors to coordinate construction activities and address project issues
  • Mentor junior technologists and designers while continuing to develop technical skills and industry knowledge

Requirements

  • Diploma in Landscape Architectural Technology or a related technical program
  • 5+ years of experience in landscape architecture, consulting, or design environments
  • Demonstrated experience producing construction documentation and landscape contract drawing packages
  • Hands-on experience supporting construction review, field inspections, and contractor coordination
  • Strong understanding of landscape construction details, specifications, and documentation standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential)
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop and familiarity with GIS tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work directly with contractors, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required

Assets (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with Revit or BIM environments
  • Familiarity with Calgary development permit processes and municipal standards
  • Experience supporting public realm or municipal landscape projects
  • Eligibility for or registration as a Landscape Architectural Technologist (LAT) with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA)
  • Previous experience mentoring junior staff or supporting multidisciplinary project teams

Team & Project Environment

The landscape architecture and urban design group consists of approximately 20+ professionals across Western Canada, with team members located in Calgary, Burnaby, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and several satellite offices. The team regularly collaborates across offices and is accustomed to working in distributed project environments.

Projects span a wide range of community and infrastructure work, including streetscapes, public spaces, campgrounds, parks, and transportation-related landscapes. The diversity of work provides opportunities to contribute to projects at different scales and across multiple stages of delivery.
