Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking 3+ Transmission Electrical Engineers for one of BC’s LARGEST municipal utilities provider. This role involves working on overhead transmission and high voltage lines for the upcoming North Coast Transmission Lines Projects. 
 

Position Highlights

The client is embarking on an exciting and transformative infrastructure project with the development of the new 500 kV North Coast Transmission Lines, strengthening grid reliability and delivering more clean energy to support regional growth. This includes building new high-voltage lines and upgrading existing ones to increase capacity and support growing electricity needs. This major investment will deliver clean, reliable power to communities and industries, enabling sustainable economic growth.

They’re looking for three (3) experienced professionals to join our Transmission Electrical Design team in a senior role. As part of the team, you will help plan, design, and deliver this significant infrastructure project.


What you’ll do

  • Conduct electrical studies related to high-voltage transmission line design, including grounding system design, step and touch potential calculations, AC interference with pipelines/railways, lightning protection, electrical safety, and EMF analysis.

  • Work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering team to design transmission lines rated at 60 kV to 500 kV.

  • Manage medium and large-sized projects and work packages, write technical specifications and standards, and prepare estimates.

  • Prepare, review, and sign study reports and drawings.

  • Provide technical and site support during installation, commissioning, and maintenance phases.

  • Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues to prioritize work, assess impacts, and resolve issues.

  • Review the work of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to accepted engineering practice.

  • Mentor and coach junior staff, sharing engineering knowledge and supporting professional development.


What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by Canadian universities.

  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC).

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience (Senior Engineer) with at least 2 years in transmission line design within the electric utility industry. Candidates with fewer qualifications or experience may be considered for a lower-level position.

  • Commitment to ongoing personal development and participation in professional societies.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, technical writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary project teams, preferably as lead engineer or project engineer.

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications such as SES-CDEGS and EMTP-RV.

  • Electrical studies related to grounding systems, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMFs, or AC interference.
