Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a well-established, privately owned civil contractor with a long-standing presence in the Fraser Valley, delivering roadworks, earthworks, and underground utility projects across the Lower Mainland. With decades of consistent project delivery and strong local relationships, this team is seeking a Project Manager / Estimator (Civil) to join their Abbotsford-based operations.

This opportunity is best suited for a senior civil estimator or PM/Estimator (8–15+ years of experience) with strong expertise in heavy civil works, particularly roadbuilding, bulk earthworks, and underground utilities, who is looking to take ownership of both estimating and project execution functions.

The Role

As a Project Manager / Estimator, you will lead the full-cycle estimating process while supporting project execution post-award. You will be responsible for preparing competitive bids, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to project planning, costing, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the end-to-end estimating process for civil projects

• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, and scopes of work

• Review tender documents including contracts, specifications, drawings, and pricing breakdowns

• Develop bid strategies, schedules, and submission packages

• Attend site visits, pre-tender, and pre-construction meetings

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing (RFQs)

• Identify risks, ambiguities, and technical requirements within bid documents

• Analyze construction methodologies to determine cost-effective approaches

• Review final estimates and apply strategic cost factors

• Track and analyze historical cost data and production metrics

• Support project execution, including change orders, cost tracking, and client communication

• Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle

Qualifications & Experience

• 8–15+ years of experience in civil construction, with 10+ years preferred

• Experience in a Senior Estimator or PM/Estimator capacity is strongly preferred

• Strong background in roadworks, earthworks, grading, and underground utilities

• Proven experience with lump sum and unit rate contract structures

• Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid and Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Outlook, Word)

• Strong understanding of civil construction methods, equipment, and production rates

• Experience developing labour, equipment, and cost estimates from first principles

• Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline

• Eligible for P.Eng. or AScT registration (preferred)
