Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a well-established, privately owned civil contractor based in the Fraser Valley looking for a Project Manager / Estimator to take on a senior leadership role within their Abbotsford operations.
Our client has been delivering roadworks, earthworks, and underground utility projects across the Lower Mainland for decades. They have deep local roots, strong client relationships, and a consistent project pipeline. This is not a large corporate environment with layers of approval and limited visibility. It is a tight team where experienced people have real ownership, direct input into how work gets won and delivered, and a clear path to shaping the estimating and project management function as the company grows.
The right person for this role is someone who has paid their dues at a larger firm, knows heavy civil inside and out, and wants to actually run something rather than feed into a process someone else controls.
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
- Full ownership of both estimating and project execution, not one or the other.
- Work directly with ownership and senior leadership in a flat, no-nonsense organization.
- A company with decades of stability, a strong reputation in the Fraser Valley market, and genuine repeat client work.
- Your decisions matter here. There is no committee to wait on.
- A real opportunity to grow into the senior civil leadership seat as the business continues to expand.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
- Lead the end-to-end estimating process for civil projects including roadworks, bulk earthworks, and underground utilities.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates built from first principles using drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Review tender documents including contracts, specs, drawings, and pricing breakdowns.
- Develop bid strategies, schedules, and full submission packages.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing through RFQs.
- Identify risks, ambiguities, and technical requirements within bid documents.
- Analyze construction methodologies to determine the most cost-effective approach.
- Attend site visits, pre-tender, and pre-construction meetings.
- Track and analyze historical cost data and production metrics to sharpen future bids.
- Support project execution post-award including change orders, cost tracking, and client communication.
- Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders through the full project lifecycle.
WHO YOU ARE
- 8 to 15 or more years of experience in civil construction, with 10 or more years preferred.
- Senior Estimator or PM/Estimator background with strong exposure to lump sum and unit rate contract structures.
- Deep expertise in roadbuilding, bulk earthworks, grading, and underground utilities.
- Proficient in HCSS HeavyBid and Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, equipment, and production rates.
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related discipline; P.Eng. or AScT eligibility is an asset.
- Someone who makes decisions confidently, works well under deadline pressure, and does not need hand-holding to get the job done.
- Equally comfortable in the office and out in the field.
WHAT IS ON OFFER
- Compensation: Competitive, disclosed upon application
- A senior role with real autonomy and direct access to ownership
- Stable, long-standing company with a strong Fraser Valley presence and consistent workload
- The opportunity to own and shape the estimating function within a growing organization
