MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for a Construction Officer (Level 3) to support major transmission and substation infrastructure projects across Northern and Southern British Columbia.

This role focuses on field construction coordination, inspection, and contract support activities across civil, electrical, and mechanical projects. The successful candidate will act as a key site representative, ensuring construction activities, materials, safety, schedules, and costs align with project expectations and operational standards.

This position is well suited to a construction professional with strong field experience in utility or infrastructure projects who enjoys working in dynamic site environments and coordinating complex construction activities.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and inspect construction activities across substations, transmission lines, and related infrastructure projects
• Ensure construction work, materials, schedules, and costs align with project requirements and quality expectations
• Perform and support construction inspections using established procedures and construction best practices
• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture through Safe Work Observations and compliance with safety standards and regulations
• Support site testing, surveying, estimating, and construction coordination activities
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to support field execution
• Support contract and work order administration activities in collaboration with contractors and internal construction teams
• Respond to technical inquiries from internal teams and external stakeholders while representing the organization professionally on site
• Provide technical guidance and support on construction-related issues
• Support project teams in maintaining schedules, resolving field issues, and progressing work safely and efficiently

Requirements

• Completion of a National Diploma of Technology in Civil & Structural or Electrical Technology, or completion of a relevant trades apprenticeship program with equivalent experience
• Minimum 7+ years of construction experience or equivalent
• Strong experience in construction inspection, coordination, and field execution
• Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering drawings, and project coordination
• Excellent knowledge of safety standards and regulations including WorkSafe and OSH requirements
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with advanced English proficiency (written and verbal)
• Ability to work in challenging field conditions, including adverse weather, remote locations, heights, or underground environments
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Assets

• Previous experience within utility or transmission infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with utility safety programs and field procedures
• Experience supporting contract administration and contractor coordination
• Experience working on substations, transmission lines, or hydroelectric infrastructure projects

• Preference for candidates based in or near:

  • Smithers
  • Terrace
  • Kitimat
• Project work may include:
  • New substations
  • Substation upgrades and retrofits
  • Capacitor stations
  • Transmission line infrastructure projects
• Rotational schedules may apply depending on project location and operational requirements
• Travel and accommodations are provided during project assignments
• This is a safety-sensitive position requiring compliance with applicable safety requirements
