Construction Officer (Level 3)

Location: Prince George & Terrace Region, BC
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Schedule: Full-Time | Shift Work Required (14/7 or 5/2 Rotations)

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking experienced Construction Officers to support major infrastructure projects in Northern British Columbia. This role is ideal for construction professionals with strong field inspection experience and expertise in utility, transmission, substation, hydroelectric, or heavy civil construction environments.

As a Construction Officer, you will act as the on-site coordinator and inspector, ensuring construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction activities on civil, electrical, and mechanical projects.
• Monitor work quality, progress, materials, and contractor performance.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, project specifications, and applicable codes.
• Perform and document safety observations and promote a strong safety culture.
• Coordinate site testing, surveying, estimating, and inspection activities.
• Review engineering drawings and construction documentation.
• Support contract and work order administration activities.
• Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and support on complex construction issues.
• Respond to construction-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within scope.

Qualifications

• National Diploma of Technology in Civil/Structural, Electrical, or a related discipline, OR an equivalent combination of trades training and experience.
• Minimum 7 years of related construction experience.
• Additional training in contract administration or contract law is considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods related to substations, transmission lines, hydroelectric facilities, or similar infrastructure projects.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of testing requirements, surveying practices, planning, scheduling, and construction costing.
• Strong inspection, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Thorough understanding of occupational health and safety standards and regulations.
• Ability to lead field activities and work effectively in a dynamic construction environment.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Driver’s Abstract in good standing.
