Summary

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Vendor Audit Specialist on behalf of our client. This contract opportunity is ideal for someone with external vendor audit experience who enjoys analyzing complex data, identifying billing discrepancies, and working directly with vendors to recover overpayments.

This is a highly collaborative role supporting supply chain operations, where you’ll spend the majority of your time reviewing vendor invoices, analyzing large datasets, and driving resolutions with both internal stakeholders and external vendors. The successful candidate is analytical, proactive, confident in difficult conversations, and motivated by delivering measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Review vendor invoices against commercial contract terms to identify overbillings, billing discrepancies, and contract non-compliance.
  • Work directly with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and recover overpayments.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze large volumes of vendor and contract data from SAP, ERP systems, SharePoint, and other internal platforms.
  • Develop and maintain detailed Excel workbooks to track audit findings and document recoveries.
  • Investigate billing issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support ongoing vendor audit initiatives and contribute to continuous process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure accurate contract compliance.
  • Document audit findings, prepare reports, and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Support data collection initiatives for future audit automation and AI-driven audit tools.

Qualifications – Must-Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of external vendor audit experience reviewing vendor invoices against commercial contract terms and supporting financial recoveries.
  • Experience identifying overbillings, invoice discrepancies, and contract compliance issues.
  • Strong Excel skills with experience analyzing and reconciling large datasets.
  • Experience working with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Confident communicator who is comfortable working directly with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Highly organized with a proactive, results-driven approach.
  • Eligible to work in Canada and available to start as soon as possible.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience within the oil & gas, utilities, energy, or engineering sectors.
  • Experience auditing engineering or construction service contracts.
  • Direct experience negotiating vendor recoveries or dispute resolution.
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • CPA, CIA, SCMP, or other related professional designation.
