Construction Technologist
Location: Nanaimo, BC (On-Site with Hybrid Flexibility After 6 Months)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Construction Technologist to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional with experience in project coordination, estimating, scheduling, and field support who enjoys working on infrastructure projects from planning through execution.
Based in Nanaimo, you'll play a key role supporting construction activities while collaborating with project managers, contractors, engineers, and field crews. This position offers a combination of office-based coordination and site visits throughout British Columbia.
Responsibilities

Prepare construction cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and project schedules.

Coordinate field activities and support construction project execution.

Review engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.

Assist with procurement activities for materials, equipment, and subcontractors.

Monitor project progress, budgets, schedules, and cost performance.

Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and project documentation.

Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, engineers, and project stakeholders.

Provide technical support and guidance to construction crews.

Participate in project planning, scheduling, and estimating activities.

Support continuous improvement of construction and project delivery processes.
Qualifications
-
Diploma of Technology or a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, Forestry, Architecture, or a related discipline; or a recognized construction trade qualification.

Minimum 5 years of construction and/or project management experience in either a field or office environment.

Experience with construction estimating, scheduling, and project coordination.

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction-related software.

Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience supporting utility, industrial, civil, or infrastructure construction projects.

Knowledge of project management principles and construction cost control.

Experience preparing procurement documentation and supporting contractor management.

Familiarity with construction standards, drawings, and technical specifications.

Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
Work Environment
-
Full-time onsite in Nanaimo for the first six months.
-
Opportunity to work from home up to two days per week after six months, subject to business requirements.

Regular travel to project sites throughout British Columbia.

Combination of office work and field visits supporting active construction projects.
