Civil / Structural Engineer

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Civil / Structural Engineer to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to the design, assessment, and delivery of critical hydroelectric infrastructure projects across British Columbia.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll provide technical expertise on structural and civil engineering projects while supporting design, field investigations, construction, and asset management initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Develop engineering designs and technical solutions for low to medium complexity civil and structural projects.
• Perform structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures.
• Lead engineering assignments and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design documentation, and project deliverables.
• Conduct site visits, field inspections, and provide construction support as required.
• Participate in engineering reviews, problem resolution, and quality assurance activities.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to support successful project delivery.
• Ensure engineering work complies with applicable standards, codes, and BC Hydro engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration.
• 8+ years of civil and structural engineering experience.
• Strong experience with concrete and steel structural design.
• Experience leading engineering projects and working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with the ability to travel throughout British Columbia for site visits and construction support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hydroelectric infrastructure including dams, spillways, powerhouses, and penstocks.
• Seismic analysis and design experience.
• Finite Element Analysis experience using LS-DYNA or similar software.
• Experience acting as an Owner's Engineer and managing engineering consultants.
• Post-graduate degree and/or Python programming experience.

Work Environment

• Candidates must reside in the Lower Mainland and be available to attend the office as required.
• Occasional travel to project sites throughout British Columbia, including remote locations.
