Estimator – Civil Construction

MatchBox Consulting Group is looking for an Estimator on behalf of a well-established civil construction company.

This is a great opportunity for an estimator with experience in earthworks, underground utilities, and civil infrastructure projects. Reporting to a senior estimating leader, you will support a growing team by preparing competitive, detailed bids and working closely with operations through project handover.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for earthworks, underground utilities, and civil construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and contracts to ensure full scope coverage.
• Complete quantity takeoffs and develop labour, equipment, material, subcontractor, and production-rate pricing.
• Prepare lump-sum and unit-rate estimates.
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotes.
• Identify risks, scope gaps, value-engineering opportunities, and key bid assumptions.
• Manage multiple bids and tender deadlines.
• Support bid submissions, project handovers, cost reviews, and post-project analysis.
• Collaborate with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of estimating experience in civil construction.
• Underground utilities and/or earthworks estimating experience.
• Strong understanding of civil construction methods, sequencing, production rates, quantities, and costs.
• Experience with both lump-sum and unit-rate tenders.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender packages.
• Strong Excel, quantity takeoff, and cost-estimating skills.
• Experience with HeavyBid, AGTEK, or B2W is an asset.
• Municipal infrastructure experience is an asset.
• Highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.
