Location: Burnaby, BC
Duration: Approximately 6-Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – minimum 2 days per week in office

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Business Decision Support Professional – Data Analytics & Data Science to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers.

This is a business-facing technical role focused on developing analytics, data science, AI, and reporting solutions that support asset management, asset planning, reliability, and operational decision-making. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capabilities in Oracle SQL, Python, and Power BI with the ability to understand complex business challenges and translate them into practical, actionable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner directly with business stakeholders to understand business processes, challenges, and analytics requirements.
• Translate complex business problems into practical data, analytics, AI, and automation solutions.
• Extract, transform, integrate, and analyze large datasets from multiple enterprise systems.
• Develop complex Oracle SQL queries.
• Use Python for data processing, automation, advanced analytics, and data science.
• Design and develop Power BI dashboards, data models, KPIs, and visualizations.
• Perform exploratory and statistical analysis to identify trends, risks, anomalies, and key drivers of asset and business performance.
• Develop predictive analytics and machine-learning solutions where appropriate.
• Identify and prototype practical AI and generative AI applications, including AI agents and intelligent workflows.
• Investigate data quality issues and collaborate with business and technology teams to improve data reliability.
• Present analytical findings, insights, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support strategic decision-making by translating business insights into actionable recommendations.
• Develop an understanding of utility assets, maintenance, reliability, asset health, and asset management processes.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 11 years of directly related professional experience or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle SQL, Python, and Power BI.
• Experience with data engineering, analytics, data visualization, and data science.
• Knowledge of machine learning, statistical analysis, AI, and generative AI.
• Demonstrated experience working directly with business stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Ability to independently take an ambiguous business problem from initial investigation through to a completed analytics solution.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within electric utilities, energy, infrastructure, engineering, or asset management.
• Knowledge or experience with electrical systems and utility asset management.
• Experience with SAP EAM or SAP S/4HANA.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power Automate, or Copilot.
• Experience developing predictive analytics or machine-learning solutions.
• Experience identifying and implementing practical AI or generative AI use cases.

The position is based in Burnaby, BC, with a hybrid arrangement requiring at least two days per week in the office.
