Our client is a growing engineering and building science consulting firm based in Burnaby, BC, supporting projects across the Greater Vancouver Area, Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and Vancouver Island.

With a lean and collaborative team, they provide building science, building envelope, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering consulting services. Their team is continuing to grow, and they are looking for an Intermediate Building Envelope Consultant who is interested in developing their technical expertise and growing with the company.

About the Role

We are looking for an Intermediate Building Envelope Consultant to join the Building Science team and work closely with the Principal on a variety of commercial, TI, and industrial projects.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of their work, develop their technical knowledge, and gain exposure to a fast-moving consulting environment without the layers of hierarchy typically found in larger engineering firms.

Responsibilities

• Support building envelope investigations, assessments, and consulting projects
• Assist with building envelope design, analysis, and technical documentation
• Review existing building conditions and provide recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and improvements
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, and other project documentation
• Apply applicable building codes and local/regional building envelope requirements
• Support project coordination with clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and other consultants
• Participate in site visits and field investigations as required
• Assist with project deliverables from initial assessment through to completion
• Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to clients and project stakeholders
• Continue developing technical knowledge and stay current with building science practices and applicable codes

Qualifications

Required

• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Architectural or Building Science, Building Engineering Technology, or equivalent
• 4–6 years of building envelope consulting experience on existing buildings in BC or a comparable climate
• Demonstrated ability to run a rehabilitation project end-to-end with limited supervision
• Working knowledge of:
  • BCBC Part 3 and Part 9
  • Vancouver Building By-Law (VBBL)
  • BC building enclosure practices
  • Rainscreen principles
  • Air and water control layers
  • Dew point and condensation control
• Strong technical report writing skills, with reports that can stand up to review by owners, contractors, and legal stakeholders
• Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and roofs, and able to meet fall-protection requirements
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for site work
• Legally eligible to work in Canada

Preferred

• EIT or P.Eng. registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or AScT with ASTTBC, or a clear path toward registration RRO (Registered Roof Observer), BSSO, or equivalent designation
• Experience with:
  • 2-5-10 warranty claims
  • Building enclosure design reviews
  • Schedule B and C-B Letters of Assurance as a registered Building Enclosure Professional
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam
• Experience with depreciation reports under the BC Strata Property Act
• Experience with WUFI and Microsoft Office is an asset
• Master’s degree in Building Science is an asset
