MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Sales Professional on behalf of our client, a Canadian renewable energy company specializing in solar and battery energy storage solutions for remote and off-grid markets. They have spent years building and field-testing their own in-house, Canadian-manufactured Battery Energy Storage System — purpose-built for environments where off-the-shelf solutions fall short — and are now ready to scale.
This is a market-building opportunity for a hunter-minded sales professional ready to take a differentiated, proven product to clients across Canada who are still heavily diesel-dependent. You will report directly to the Chief Business Officer and work with a lean, experienced team — with full technical and engineering support behind you once you're in front of the right clients.
The position is fully remote with a national scope. Some travel across Northern Canada is expected — roughly every couple of months to quarterly — with all travel expenses covered.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Development & Lead Generation
- Identify and qualify high-value opportunities in remote and off-grid markets across Canada, including mining, exploration, First Nations communities, highway camps, travel lodges, and rural infrastructure.
- Build your own pipeline from day one — no warm leads handed over. Your existing network in relevant sectors is your primary asset coming in.
- Stay current on Canadian regulatory changes, carbon pricing, and federal and provincial funding programs to identify and maximize project viability for clients.
Full-Cycle Sales Ownership
- Manage the complete sales cycle from initial outreach through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution — including navigating longer, more complex development timelines common in remote energy and First Nations markets.
- Deliver technically-informed, compelling proposals in collaboration with internal engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Ensure a clean and professional handoff to the operations team upon project close.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments — from site engineers and community leadership to CFOs and funding bodies.
- Build genuine, trust-based relationships in markets where credibility and patience are prerequisites for closing.
- Serve as the primary client-facing representative for this product line in the Canadian market.
CRM & Reporting Discipline
- Maintain a well-organized, up-to-date pipeline in the company CRM.
- Contribute to forecasting and strategic planning through accurate, consistent reporting.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of B2B sales experience in energy storage, remote energy, mining services, heavy construction, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals — not short-cycle or transactional sales.
Market Knowledge
- Experience selling to mining operations, Indigenous communities, or remote infrastructure markets is a strong asset.
- Existing network of contacts within the Canadian mining or remote energy sector is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with the Canadian regulatory landscape, carbon pricing, and federal or provincial funding programs is an asset.
Technical Literacy
- Comfortable discussing battery storage and microgrid concepts, project economics, and ROI without relying on engineering support in client conversations.
Skills
- Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to operate independently across a large geographic territory.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; equally effective in technical conversations and community or boardroom settings.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and data-driven sales reporting.
- Willingness to travel across Northern Canada as required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary + uncapped commission structure based on a percentage of revenue
- 4 weeks vacation + 1 week sick leave
- Employer-paid comprehensive benefits (including virtual health, mental health, and pharmacy access)
- Cell phone and laptop provided
- All travel expenses covered
- Currently trialing a 4-day work week (36 hours)
Additional Requirements
- Background check required
- Valid driver's license with a clean abstract and minimum 3 years claims history
