MatchBox Consulting Group is on the hunt for a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager on behalf of our client— a leading construction company with a proven track record of delivering exceptional projects across the commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential sectors.

The primary responsibility of the Business Development Manager will be to plan, lead, and manage activities related to the identification, pursuit, and acquisition of commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential construction opportunities. This involves proactively identifying potential leads, managing the CRM process, collaborating with leadership to coordinate and respond to requests for proposals (RFPs), and supporting marketing efforts by preparing communications and collateral material for clients. Success in this position relies on exceptional organizational abilities, effective time management, meeting deadlines and deliverables, relationship-building characteristics, and strong leadership qualities. We are looking for a highly motivated, hardworking, and accountable individual who takes ownership of their success and learns from both their successes and failures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate qualified leads through pre-existing relationships, cold calls, face-to-face meetings, property/office visits, and other appropriate means.
  • Identify and contact decision-makers, screen potential business opportunities, select the deals in line with strategies, and lead and facilitate pitch logistics.
  • Analyze industry trends, the competitive landscape, and customer needs to develop effective growth strategies.
  • Build short-to-medium-term sales pipelines in accordance with targets, identifying trends and customer needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and other industry professionals.
  • Understand client requirements, objectives, and budgets to tailor solutions that meet their needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service, address concerns, and maintain client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement an overarching outbound sales and business development strategy, including sales processes, structure, and best practices.
  • Monitor and evaluate industry trends and customer drivers and meet regularly with management and stakeholders to discuss strategy.
  • Support deal structure and pricing with business value analysis; negotiate prices for proactive bids and proposals.
  • Collaborate closely with other Business Development members, designers, and project managers.
  • Review and revamp existing sales platform and CRM and develop internal and external sales strategies.
  • Provide regular weekly reports on business development activities, sales forecasts, and market insights to the management team. Quarterly reports of sales and marketing expenses.
  • Managing the CRM system accurately.
  • Represent the company at networking events/meetings to enhance the company’s visibility and reputation in the industry.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in business development and sales experience within the construction new build industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Vancouver construction market, including key players, trends, and regulations.
  • Excellent managerial skills with an open and collaborative work style, committed to delivering high-quality services.
  • Engaging and charismatic personality with a hunter mentality to develop relationships with clients and contractors.
  • Entrepreneurial, energetic, dynamic, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with data analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrate commitment to high professional ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with construction methods, materials, and BC Code.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite & CRM software.
  • Experience using Procore is an asset.
  • Proven track record of winning contracts ranging from $750,000 – $5M.
