MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Commercial Solar Sales Professional on behalf of our client, a growing renewable energy company with a strong track record of delivering large-scale solar and energy storage projects across Canada. Having established themselves as a leader in complex, remote, and northern energy markets, they are now formalizing their expansion into Ontario's commercial and industrial sector — and this role is the foundation of that effort.
It's a market-building opportunity for a hunter-minded sales professional ready to own the full commercial pipeline in one of Canada's most active solar markets. You will report directly to the Chief Business Officer and work alongside a lean, high-performing sales team — supported by experienced internal technical and operations staff who handle the delivery side once you close.
The position is fully remote and Ontario-based, with access to a southern Ontario office. Some travel across Ontario is expected — roughly every couple of months to quarterly — with all travel expenses covered.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Development & Lead Generation
- Originate and qualify commercial and industrial solar and battery energy storage (BESS) opportunities across Ontario.
- Leverage your existing network in relevant sectors (commercial real estate, industrial, municipal, and others) to generate your own pipeline — no warm leads will be handed over.
- Identify and pursue high-value targets with urgency and strategic focus.
Full-Cycle Sales Ownership
- Manage the complete sales cycle from initial outreach through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution.
- Deliver compelling, technically-informed proposals in collaboration with internal design and technical teams.
- Ensure a clean and professional handoff to the operations team upon project close.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Navigate multi-stakeholder sales environments — from facilities managers and CFOs to municipal decision-makers.
- Build lasting relationships based on trust, credibility, and a consultative approach to complex project economics.
- Serve as the primary client-facing representative in the Ontario commercial market.
CRM & Reporting Discipline
- Maintain a well-organized, up-to-date pipeline in the company CRM.
- Contribute to forecasting and strategic planning through accurate, consistent reporting.
Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of B2B sales experience in solar, energy storage, energy infrastructure, construction, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder project deals — not short-cycle or transactional sales.
- Note: Candidates with experience limited to residential solar are unlikely to be a strong fit for this role.
Market Knowledge
- Deep understanding of the Ontario energy market, including interconnection processes, PPA structures, and the local regulatory environment.
- Existing network of contacts within the Ontario commercial or industrial energy sector is a significant advantage.
Technical Literacy
- Comfortable discussing solar and BESS project economics, ROI, and basic technical concepts without relying on engineering support in client conversations.
Skills
- Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to operate independently across a large territory.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; equally effective in boardroom presentations and technical conversations.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and data-driven sales reporting.
- Willingness to travel across Ontario as required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary + Uncapped commission structure based on a percentage of revenue
- 4 weeks vacation + 1 week sick leave

- Currently trialing a 4-day work week (36 hours)
