MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an Intern Architect to join our client, a dynamic architectural firm located in Vancouver with a full range of architectural services in residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects.

The Intern Architect will be responsible for supporting the Architect in Victoria, BC with several projects the company is working on. Some of the main responsibilities include contract administration, front end design, and design development on residential projects primarily. This is a great opportunity for someone to gain experience in various areas of a project and work with a tenured, well-established Architect in the industry.  

Responsibilities:

• Conduct contract administration duties, including reviewing contract documents, coordinating with clients and contractors, and ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
• Collaborate with the project team to develop and refine project goals, objectives, and design criteria.
• Participate in client meetings to gather project requirements and establish design concepts.
• Create conceptual designs, sketches, and 3D models to communicate design intent effectively.
• Work closely with engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders to integrate all project requirements into the design.
• Develop detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, and material selections, while adhering to relevant codes and standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve design-related issues during construction.
• Review and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information) and submittals to ensure compliance with design intent.
• Conduct periodic site visits to assess construction progress, provide design guidance, and address any on-site design issues.
• Collaborate with project managers to monitor project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in architecture.

Qualifications:

• 4 years of architectural experience minimum
• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
• AIBC certification is a strong asset
• Proficient in Revit and SketchUp; AutoCAD is an asset
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and in a project team setting
• Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral)
• In-depth knowledge of BC Building Code
