SCADA Systems Engineer (EIT)

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a SCADA Systems Engineer (EIT) for a hybrid opportunity based in Burnaby, BC, supporting one of British Columbia’s largest utility and clean energy organizations. This role is ideal for an Engineer-in-Training with experience in SCADA systems, automation, or control systems who is looking to work on large-scale transmission, generation, and distribution infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary SCADA Design Team supporting the design, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of remote monitoring and control systems within high-voltage utility substations and power system environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems for utility substations and power systems
• Assist with integration of remote monitoring and control equipment across transmission, generation, and distribution facilities
• Configure and program RTUs, gateway devices, network switches/routers, and related SCADA equipment
• Prepare project documentation including specifications, test plans, design packages, calculations, and reports
• Support factory testing, installation, commissioning, and field reviews
• Assist with technical troubleshooting, system validation, and operational support activities
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders

Must Haves

• University degree in Applied Science or Engineering
• Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) at time of submission
• Ability to work onsite in Burnaby on a hybrid schedule
• Minimum 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
• Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering software, and MS Office applications
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice to Haves

• 3–5 years of experience in automation, SCADA, or control systems environments
• Experience with DNP3, networking protocols, cybersecurity, and M2M networking applications
• Experience programming GE RTUs including D400, D20, D200, D25, or IBOX systems
• Knowledge of NERC standards
• Utility or infrastructure industry experience
• Experience with Ethernet networks, Modbus protocols, and SCADA commissioning/testing
