Qualified Coordinator – Construction Safety

Location: Mica Creek, BC
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Full-Time Onsite
Schedule: Standard rotation of 4 days on / 3 days off, 10-hour days

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Qualified Coordinator – Construction Safety to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers at a major infrastructure site in Mica Creek.

This is a hands-on site safety leadership role responsible for coordinating health and safety activities across a multi-employer construction workplace. The successful candidate will work closely with contractors, supervisors, workers, and project teams to manage overlapping hazards, support regulatory compliance, and maintain a strong, collaborative safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Qualified Coordinator for a multiple-employer construction workplace.
  • Coordinate health and safety activities between contractors, trades, supervisors, and workers in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements.
  • Ensure employers and workers are aware of known hazards and that appropriate mitigation strategies are established and communicated.
  • Facilitate communication between employers to identify and prevent overlapping worksite hazards.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and monitor compliance with established safety programs and practices.
  • Maintain and update the Prime Contractor Safety Management Plan.
  • Ensure Notices of Project (NOPs) are submitted and updated as required.
  • Evaluate first aid and emergency response requirements and coordinate mock drills and evacuations.
  • Provide leadership in coordinating health and safety activities across all employers on site.
  • Develop and manage site safety coordination tools and real-time tracking systems.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, orientations, contractor discussions, and other safety-related activities.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work with project teams to integrate safety requirements into project planning and execution.
  • Monitor and communicate regulatory changes affecting site activities.
  • Develop and review construction management procedures and training materials.
  • Develop and manage a focused Safe Work Observation program.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the local WorkSafeBC officer.
  • Mentor and coach field personnel and other Qualified Coordinators.
  • Promote continuous improvement and a respectful, collaborative, and safety-focused work environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a multi-contractor construction environment.
  • Direct experience with Prime Contractor responsibilities, contractor oversight, and regulatory safety compliance.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements within a multi-employer worksite.
  • Experience in construction, industrial, infrastructure, utilities, civil, or heavy project environments.
  • Working knowledge of contractor coordination and workplace hazard management requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong relationships with contractors, supervisors, workers, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to promote safe, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplaces.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Project Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of education and 5–7 years of relevant field experience demonstrating the required competencies may also be considered.
  • Project coordination experience involving hydro, utilities, civil construction, electrical, mechanical, tunnelling, roadwork, dams, transmission, or large industrial projects.
  • Experience working in remote, industrial, or high-risk construction environments.
  • Strong facilitation skills for safety meetings, site orientations, and contractor kickoff meetings.
  • Mental Health First Aid, leadership training, or conflict resolution training.

Schedule & Site Requirements

This is an onsite assignment in Mica Creek, BC. The standard schedule is 4 days on / 3 days off with 10-hour days. Alternative rotations, such as 8 days on / 6 days off or 10 days on / 4 days off, may be considered depending on the candidate’s location and travel requirements.
