MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineer (E5) to support transmission system projects across British Columbia.

This is a one year contract and the role focuses on commissioning, technical support, and system reliability for Protection & Control (P&C) systems across transmission and distribution infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key role in commissioning acceptance, system analysis, and real-time operational support, working across multiple business units.

This position is well suited to a senior engineer with strong field experience in P&C systems who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, supporting operations, and contributing to system reliability at a network level.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support commissioning acceptance of P&C systems across transmission and distribution substations (12kV–500kV)
• Provide advanced technical support for P&C systems, including troubleshooting and fault analysis
• Review, approve, and seal commissioning documentation in accordance with engineering standards
• Conduct field reviews of P&C equipment installations and modifications
• Support integration testing, system monitoring, and real-time operations
• Investigate system disturbances and recommend corrective actions
• Develop contingency and short-term operating plans for abnormal system conditions
• Support field technologists with technical expertise and issue resolution
• Contribute to the development and improvement of P&C commissioning standards and maintenance practices
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams and technical committees to address complex engineering challenges
• Coordinate special testing requirements and system operating procedures
• Provide subject matter expertise to project teams on complex P&C systems

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized Canadian university
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC, or eligible for registration
• Minimum 10+ years of engineering experience in a relevant field
• Minimum 4+ years of Protection & Control (P&C) commissioning experience
• Strong technical knowledge of transmission system protection and control
• Experience with P&C testing, commissioning practices, and field-based engineering work
• Experience in fault analysis, system disturbances, and investigations
• Strong technical writing, reporting, and presentation skills
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and manage complex technical assignments
• Willingness and ability to travel to sites across the province
