Senior Accountant

Location: Vancouver, BC | Full-time, in-office

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Accountant for a growing, multidisciplinary engineering and development consultancy in Vancouver.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of daily accounting in a business that works with owners, architects and construction teams from project planning through occupancy. You’ll gain exposure to multiple service lines, domestic and international entities, and a recently implemented NetSuite system.

Reporting to a fractional Controller, you’ll be the most senior in-house accounting resource, with one administrative support employee reporting to you. The role offers hands-on responsibility, direct interaction with project leaders and room to build stronger processes as the business grows.

What You’ll Do

  • Own full-cycle accounting, including month-end and year-end close, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations and financial statement preparation.

  • Manage project accounting from setup through closeout, including project costs, billing structures, WIP, unbilled and deferred revenue, revenue recognition and profitability reporting.

  • Work with project leads to review budgets, labour costs, billing rates, margins and budget-to-actual hours.

  • Manage client invoicing, accounts receivable and collections.

  • Prepare multi-entity reporting working papers, intercompany reconciliations and foreign exchange entries.

  • Administer payroll, remittances, year-end filings and group benefits.

  • Oversee accounts payable, expenses and corporate card reconciliations.

  • Review and support the work of one administrative employee.

  • Improve accounting workflows and reporting in NetSuite.

  • Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate with external accountants and tax advisors.

What You Must Bring

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial hands-on full-cycle responsibility.

  • Direct project accounting experience. You must have worked with WIP, revenue recognition, project costing and project profitability reporting.

  • Experience accounting for unbilled and deferred revenue, with an understanding of how project progress, costs and billing affect financial results.

  • Strong month-end close, reconciliation and financial reporting skills.

  • Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany reconciliations and foreign exchange.

  • Payroll and group benefits administration experience.

  • NetSuite or comparable ERP experience, plus advanced Excel skills.

  • Experience reviewing or supervising transactional accounting work.

  • The confidence to work independently and communicate clearly with project managers and non-finance colleagues.

Experience in engineering, architecture, construction or project-based professional services is strongly preferred. A CPA designation is not required; candidates pursuing their designation are welcome.

Why Join?

You’ll have meaningful ownership of the accounting function while benefiting from an experienced fractional Controller’s oversight. It’s a chance to broaden your experience across projects, entities and systems, contribute directly to a growing consultancy, and help shape how its finance function develops.
