Senior Environmental Professional 

Location: Burnaby, BC / Remote
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Remote options available; candidates must work 7.5 hours aligned with PST
Travel: Regular travel to the Prince George–Terrace corridor for meetings, field tours, and workshops

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Environmental Professional to support a major capital infrastructure project with one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers.

This role combines environmental management, contractor oversight, regulatory coordination, and project delivery in a large-scale greenfield environment. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, environmental contractors, First Nations, and regulatory agencies to identify environmental constraints, develop mitigation strategies, and keep environmental work packages progressing safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage environmental contractors, including associated procurement and contract administration activities.
• Manage the scope, schedule, and cost of assigned environmental work packages.
• Coordinate environmental responses and discussions with First Nations and senior regulatory agency representatives.
• Support the development and planning of environmental mitigation measures.
• Interpret environmental regulations in the context of project activities and construction work.
• Coordinate environmental constraints analysis for project designs and plans, with a significant focus on biophysical considerations in a greenfield setting.
• Develop environmental work plans and investigate environmental risks in both design and field environments.
• Support multidisciplinary environmental studies, assessments, and environmental protection initiatives.
• Provide environmental advice and recommendations to project teams.
• Travel to the Prince George–Terrace project corridor for meetings, workshops, and field tours.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 10 years of environmental or natural resource management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.
• BC work experience is required.
• Demonstrated experience supporting large capital construction projects.
• Experience managing contractors and contracts.
• Eligible for membership in a professional association such as RPBio, P.Geo., PMP, P.Eng., or equivalent.
• Experience with multidisciplinary studies and formal environmental assessments.
• Strong environmental risk assessment, planning, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience working directly with First Nations groups.
• Previous environmental experience on major utility, energy, transportation, or other large infrastructure projects.
• Experience working with regulatory agencies and supporting complex environmental approvals or mitigation programs.
