Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team at [Company Name], a leading general contractor specializing in ICI construction projects. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for managing and overseeing the estimation process, ensuring accurate project cost forecasts, and supporting the bid process for new and ongoing projects. This role requires a strong understanding of ICI construction practices, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to lead the estimation team in delivering competitive and comprehensive bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Lead the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for ICI projects, including budgeting, material costs, labor, subcontractors, and equipment.
- Bid Management: Review project specifications, drawings, and scope of work to prepare bids, and collaborate with project managers and design teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and assess project-specific requirements.
- Risk Assessment: Identify and assess project risks, including potential cost escalations or delays, and suggest mitigation strategies.
- Project Analysis: Analyze tender documents and project scope to determine cost-saving opportunities and areas for efficiency improvements.
- Cost Tracking and Reporting: Monitor costs during the execution of projects, and provide periodic reports on project budgets, estimates, and actuals.
- Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior estimators, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Client Communication: Communicate with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify project details, bid requirements, and expectations.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and innovative construction practices to improve estimation accuracy and competitiveness.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 7-10 years of experience as an estimator in the ICI construction sector, with a strong background in project bidding and cost estimation.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., ProEst, RSMeans, or similar) and MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of ICI construction processes, labor rates, materials, and the local Calgary construction market.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with experience managing and guiding junior team members.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Designation: ACI (Accredited Estimator), PMP (Project Management Professional), or equivalent.
- Local Experience: Familiarity with Calgary’s construction environment, including local building codes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements.
