MatchBox is urgently seeking a Senior QA Engineer for an 8-month contract opportunity with our Burnaby, BC based client. This is a hybrid role (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote).
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in Java, Selenium, and manual and automated testing frameworks to join a high-performing technology team delivering enterprise-scale applications.
This role is ideal for a QA professional who is passionate about quality, automation, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in defining testing strategies, developing scalable automation frameworks, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex business applications. You will work closely with developers, business analysts, product owners, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality software while balancing both automated and manual testing activities.
The successful candidate is proactive, self-driven, and comfortable taking ownership of testing initiatives in fast-paced project environments. You will help establish testing best practices, accelerate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and ensure testing activities support project delivery timelines rather than becoming a bottleneck.
Key Responsibilities
Test Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement comprehensive QA strategies, test plans, and testing approaches for enterprise applications.
- Define testing scope, priorities, and automation opportunities throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure quality is incorporated from the earliest stages of development.
Test Design & Execution
- Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases, test scripts, and test scenarios.
- Perform functional, regression, integration, system, end-to-end (E2E), API, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Validate business processes, workflows, integrations, and data accuracy across multiple applications.
Test Automation
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, reusable automated testing frameworks using Java, Selenium, and TestNG.
- Create automated API tests using tools such as RestAssured.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment quality and release confidence.
- Continuously improve automation coverage, execution efficiency, and framework maintainability.
Defect Management & Reporting
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through to resolution.
- Analyze test results and provide detailed reporting on quality metrics, testing progress, risks, and recommendations.
- Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot issues and validate fixes.
Collaboration
- Partner with Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure complete test coverage.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Provide QA leadership by recommending testing best practices and continuous process improvements.
Documentation
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including test plans, test cases, automation scripts, execution results, traceability matrices, and testing summaries.
- Ensure testing artifacts remain current throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
- Previous experience in a Senior QA or QA Automation leadership role.
- Strong experience with Java and Selenium for test automation.
- Experience with TestNG, RestAssured, and API testing.
- Experience developing automated regression and integration test suites.
- Strong SQL skills with experience validating application and database data.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs using tools such as Postman or similar.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
- Experience using defect management and work tracking tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, or similar.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, QA methodologies, and testing best practices.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with Cucumber or other Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) frameworks.
- Experience using cloud-based testing platforms such as BrowserStack or similar.
- Experience with performance, load, or security testing.
- Experience testing enterprise integrations and distributed applications.
- Experience working on cloud migration or digital transformation initiatives.
- Exposure to enterprise platforms such as ERP, CRM, insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with Guidewire or similar enterprise platforms is considered an asset but is not required.
