Senior Distribution Engineer
Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer to support a leading utility organization in British Columbia. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development, maintenance, and modernization of distribution engineering standards that support one of Canada's largest electrical distribution systems.
The successful candidate will join a highly skilled team responsible for equipment evaluation, standards development, system reliability, and engineering support for distribution operations across the province.

Responsibilities
- Develop, revise, and maintain construction, design, and commissioning standards for electrical distribution systems.
- Support the creation and revision of engineering drawings and technical standards for overhead and underground distribution infrastructure.
- Evaluate new equipment and technologies through planning, testing, field trials, and technical assessments.
- Investigate equipment failures, operational issues, and complex engineering challenges.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering, design, planning, and operations teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, contractors, and field personnel to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Support modernization initiatives, including advanced engineering design tools and AI-enabled workflows.
- Review and prepare technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Participate in engineering studies, technical analysis, and standards development activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, reliability, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized accredited university.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (or eligible for registration).
- Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience with overhead and underground electrical distribution systems operating at voltages up to 35 kV.
- Strong understanding of distribution equipment, standards, design principles, and utility engineering practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and work independently on complex technical issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Distribution automation systems.
- Protection and control systems.
- SCADA systems and relaying technologies.
- Medium-voltage electrical equipment.
- Customer electrical services, metering, and utility/customer interface requirements.
- Distribution standards development and equipment specification.
- AutoCAD, Inventor, MicroStation, SolidWorks, or related CAD platforms.
- Utility standards drafting and technical drawing development.
- 3D modelling and engineering visualization tools.
