• Location: Richmond, British Columbia
  • Type: Direct Hire
  • Job #13923
  • Salary: CA$120,000 Per Hour

Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a growing, specialized engineering consultancy focused on transmission and distribution infrastructure projects across Western Canada based in Richmond with only 1-2 days in office. With a strong pipeline of long-term utility work — including major projects with a leading provincial utility provider — this team is expanding and seeking a Transmission Design Engineer (P.Eng.) to join their operations.

This opportunity is best suited for an engineer with ~5 years of experience and strong PLS-CADD proficiency, looking to work on technically engaging transmission projects with a flexible, hybrid work environment.

The Role

As a Transmission Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in the design and execution of overhead transmission line projects. You will be involved in detailed engineering, structure replacement programs, and full package preparation, working closely with a highly technical and collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed transmission line design using PLS-CADD (core requirement)
  • Support pole replacement and upgrade projects on transmission systems
  • Prepare engineering design packages, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and project teams on design coordination
  • Contribute to project planning, execution, and technical problem-solving
  • Review and interpret technical standards and utility requirements
  • Assist in maintaining quality and consistency across design deliverables

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5~ years of experience in transmission line engineering or related fields
  • Strong proficiency in PLS-CADD (required)
  • Experience working on utility projects (experience with a major provincial utility is a strong asset)
  • P.Eng. designation
  • Experience with PLS-Tower, SpidaCalc, Passport, and/or BCH DAD is a strong asset but not required
  • Ability to perform technical hands-on design work (not purely review-focused roles)
  • Strong understanding of overhead line design, standards, and practices

Who You Are

  • A technically strong engineer who enjoys hands-on design work
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, engineering-focused environment
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple projects in a dynamic setting

Work Environment & Benefits

  • Hybrid work model: 1–2 days/week in office (Lower Mainland)
  • WFH equipment allowance with annual top-ups (equipment is yours to keep)
  • Vacation: 3 weeks (negotiable for senior candidates)
  • Benefits: 75% coverage initially, increasing to 100% after 5 years
  • RPP matching: Starting at 4% after 2 years, with increases over time
  • Profit sharing (in lieu of formal bonus structure)
