Matchbox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of our client for a Substation High Voltage Electrical Engineer to join their Winnipeg office. This role sits within the Power team and focuses on electrical substation, commercial, and industrial high-voltage design projects.
This position plays a key role in the successful delivery of projects and requires strong technical capability, collaboration, and communication skills. It is well suited for an engineer looking to deepen their expertise in power systems while continuing to grow their professional career.
Key Responsibilities

Electrical design of high-voltage electrical substations, including:
-
Grounding studies and designs using CDEGS
-
Field measurements for grounding studies, including soil resistivity and fall-of-potential testing
-
Protection and control design, including schematics, wiring, panel layouts, control building layouts, cable schedules, and bills of materials
-
Physical design of switchyard equipment, considering required clearances, connections, layouts, sections, details, and materials
-

Perform arc flash, coordination, and short-circuit studies using ETAP and/or EasyPower
-
Deliver high-voltage services and designs for industrial and commercial facilities, including:

Medium and high-voltage emergency power systems
-
Utility coordination
-
Feeder specifications, routing, duct bank design, and cable pull calculations

Layouts and details supporting constructability and interdisciplinary coordination
-

Work closely with project managers and project teams to support on-time project delivery
-
Coordinate with clients and contractors and respond to technical inquiries as required

Provide technical and administrative support throughout all project phases
-
Support the development and maintenance of client relationships
-
Coordinate with internal production teams to ensure quality and timely delivery

Train and mentor junior staff
Qualifications, Experience & Education
-
Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian institution or one recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB)

Specialization in electrical power systems is considered an asset

Minimum of 6 years of experience as a professional engineer or engineer-in-training, including at least 2 years as a Professional Engineer

Direct experience in substation design

Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)

Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
-
Experience working directly with clients is considered an asset
Required Skills & Technical Abilities

Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CDEGS, ETAP, and/or EasyPower
-
Experience performing grounding system impedance measurements and/or soil resistivity testing
-
Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and National Codes of Canada

Strong ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work

Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills

Analytical, detail-oriented, and thorough in approach

Strong time-management and organizational skills

Ability to work effectively under pressure
