MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client for a Program Budget & Financial Analyst to support a large-scale IT systems implementation program in Calgary.
This role will focus on financial management across a complex, multi-year program, supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the program remains aligned with budget expectations while providing clear financial insights to support decision-making.
This position is well suited to a detail-oriented professional who is comfortable working with large datasets, managing workforce-related costs, and supporting financial governance within a fast-paced program environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and maintain program budgets, including multi-year financial forecasts
- Prepare and update cost projections aligned with program milestones and deliverables
- Perform variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. forecast) and provide actionable insights
- Track Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) to support financial accuracy
- Monitor and track program expenditures, ensuring accurate cost allocation and coding
- Identify cost risks, trends, and opportunities for optimization
- Support financial governance and ensure compliance with internal policies
- Track and manage vendor invoices and related financial documentation
- Oversee and validate timesheet tracking for program personnel, ensuring accurate labor cost reporting
- Collaborate with project managers and team leads to ensure timely and accurate time reporting
- Analyze workforce utilization and provide insights into cost efficiency
- Prepare financial reports and dashboards for program leadership, including budget status and burn rate
- Support executive-level reporting with clear summaries and recommendations
- Assist with audits and financial reviews as required
- Support annual budget planning and long-term financial strategies
- Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, tools, and reporting systems
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in program finance, budgeting, or financial analysis
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Experience with cost tracking methodologies including EAC, ETC, and variance analysis
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with financial systems (Workday preferred)
- Experience managing and analyzing large datasets, particularly workforce and labor costs
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities
Assets
- Professional designation such as CPA, CFA, or equivalent
- Experience supporting program or project management environments (PMO)
- Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) principles
- Experience managing large-scale program budgets (e.g., $200M+)
- Experience within utilities, energy, or infrastructure environments
