MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for an Asset Management Specialist to support a large-scale asset management transformation initiative within a regulated utility environment. This is a 2-year contract opportunity based in Surrey, BC, with a hybrid work model requiring approximately three days per week in the office.
This is a senior-level, hands-on role focused on assessing, developing, and implementing asset management frameworks, governance structures, and improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, helping shape the future of asset management practices while driving execution and organizational change.
This position is ideal for an experienced asset management professional who understands how governance, risk, maintenance, data, technology, planning, and investment decision-making work together within a mature asset management ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Assess and document current asset management practices, processes, and governance frameworks
- Conduct stakeholder interviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish a current-state baseline
- Develop and implement asset management policies, standards, governance frameworks, and strategic asset management plans (SAMP)
- Lead asset management maturity assessments and identify opportunities for improvement
- Develop gap analyses and phased implementation roadmaps aligned with business objectives and industry best practices
- Drive execution of asset management improvement initiatives across the organization
- Develop asset management plans, asset health frameworks, criticality models, and risk-based decision-making processes
- Improve asset data governance and support alignment between business processes and technology platforms
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, integrity, and project teams to improve asset management capabilities
- Support capital planning, investment prioritization, and lifecycle management strategies
- Influence stakeholders at all organizational levels and support change management initiatives
- Develop KPIs, performance measures, and reporting frameworks to track asset management maturity and outcomes
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Business, Asset Management, or a related field
- Minimum 8+ years of asset management experience within asset-intensive industries
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing asset management frameworks, governance structures, and strategies
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 55000 principles and asset management best practices
- Experience conducting asset management maturity assessments and gap analyses
- Experience working within owner/operator organizations and influencing governance decisions
- Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management, maintenance, reliability, risk management, and capital planning
- Experience developing practical implementation roadmaps and driving organizational adoption
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and lead initiatives from assessment through execution
- Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience within asset-intensive industries such as:
- Utilities
- Water and wastewater
- Transportation and rail
- Industrial operations
- Process facilities
- Linear infrastructure environments
- Experience with:
- Asset Health Programs
- Asset Criticality Assessments
- Risk-Based Decision Making
- Maintenance & Reliability Programs
- Asset Data Governance
- CMMS platforms and maintenance systems
- Familiarity with enterprise systems such as SAP and their role within asset management programs
Assets
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
- MBA, PMP, IAM, CRE, CMRP, or related certifications
- Experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA environments
- Experience with Copperleaf, Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar asset investment planning tools
- Experience supporting regulatory filings, rate cases, or investment justification processes
- Power BI or advanced KPI/dashboard development experience
