Senior Mechanical Engineer 

Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid – Minimum 2 Days per Week Onsite)
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Schedule: Initially Part-Time with Potential to Transition to Full-Time

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in hydroelectric generation systems to support major capital projects, operational programs, and Owner’s Engineer review activities. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer with specialized knowledge of hydropower equipment and a strong background in utility, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for hydroelectric generation projects and operational programs.
• Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Support the creation and revision of engineering drawings associated with mechanical generation systems.
• Conduct engineering studies, technical evaluations, and problem-solving activities.
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to deliver project objectives.
• Participate in Owner’s Engineer reviews and provide technical recommendations.
• Support engineering, planning, estimating, quality management, and project execution activities.
• Travel to sites throughout British Columbia as required.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible for registration.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Strong experience working on projects involving multiple stakeholders.
• Expertise in hydroelectric generation equipment, including:
  • Francis turbines
  • Pelton turbines
  • Kaplan turbines
  • Generators
  • Governor systems
• Experience with generation mechanical systems such as:
  • Turbine inlet valves
  • Penstock inlet valves
  • Intake gates
  • Draft tube gates
  • Maintenance gates
• Strong technical problem-solving, engineering analysis, and design capabilities.
• Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
• Willingness to travel within British Columbia approximately 3–6 times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

• Utility industry experience.
• Experience working within large, complex organizations.
• PMP certification.
• Experience with CAD, CADD, Autodesk, drafting, modelling, and engineering design applications.
• Experience supporting hydroelectric generation facilities and major infrastructure projects.
