MatchBox Consulting Group is currently looking for an Architectural Technologist to join one of our clients. The company is one of the largest integrated development, design and construction firms in Western Canada, providing solutions to clients in the Industrial, Institutional, Building Renewal, Commercial, Retail and Residential sectors.  In an industry driven by traditional market practices, they focus on innovation, service integration and technology to create efficiencies and savings.

The Architectural Technologist will be responsible for translating design intent into a complete set of construction documents coordinated with engineering and Building Code requirements. The Architectural Technologist will develop wall sections and details which meet the design intent of the Project Architect / Design Manager (PA/DM) and are rooted in best practices of Building Envelope science. The Architectural Technologist will also advise on the development of the project specifications as they relate to building envelope assemblies, materials and details. 

Responsibilities: 

• Assist the PA/DM with developing a high-quality set of complete Construction Documents and ensure that the building envelope detailing is coordinated with engineering and Building Code requirements
• Prepare high quality sets of construction documents and administers construction contracts
• Assists the team to successfully develop and deliver all project requirements (drawings, reports, specifications, etc.) through all project phases from schematic design to close out
• As a key part of the “Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)” team, supports the PA/DM in the coordination of project documentation from all disciplines
• Has strong graphic/visualization abilities and can prepare plans, sections, elevations and views of projects for presentations to clients, authorities and other key external stakeholders
• Advise on the development of the project specifications as they relate to building envelope assemblies, materials and details
• Develop wall sections and details which meet the design intent of and are rooted in best practices of Building Envelope science
• Supports the team in the maintenance of project schedule and meeting project objectives and milestones
• Focus on the quality of deliverables by monitoring compliance with the company’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control Protocols as defined in the company process directory
• Attends coordination meetings when directed by the PA/DM and responds to requests for information
• Effective leadership skills, with a focus on mentoring and coaching
• Attend project and/or site meetings and record the meeting and produce minutes
• Participates in the Construction Contract Administration phase to coordinate and review submittals and Requests for Information

Qualifications:  

• 5+ years of experience in a prime (Architectural) consulting environment
• Has experience working on project teams and contributing to all phases of project development
• Diploma and/or Degree in Architectural Building Technology from a recognized technological institute
• Registration with the Provincial Architectural Association as an Architectural Technologist is an asset.
• Demonstrated expertise in design and/or technical realms
• Thorough understanding of BC building code and bylaw requirements to assist with the preparation of documents to meet municipal requirements
• Expertise in REVIT and AutoCAD as well as the MS “Office” suite of tools
• Knowledgeable of different buildings systems and technologies including Building Envelope Science
• Establishes a specialization in Building Envelope, Code, QA, Sustainability, Revit, Project Type or other
• High level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic
• Excellent communication skills – oral and written
