Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a Distribution Engineer to work on a 12-month contract with very high potential of renewal, for one of BC’s largest utility and energy companies.

The Engineer is a professional engineer or geoscientist who applies engineering knowledge to provide engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium complexity projects and/or operations safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

Location: Burnaby (Hybrid)

Responsibilities:

• Experience and Role Accountabilities shall relate to Overhead – and underground electric utility distribution systems operating at voltages at or below 35kV.
• Supporting the Distribution Engineering Programs team in providing engineering support of new, end-of-life, and automation programs
• Act as the Owner’s Engineer (OE) and review Engineering Service Provides (ESP) design submissions
• Work with Distribution Regional Engineers (DRE) and ESP in providing non-standard solutions
• Reviewing and designing device settings in collaboration with DRE
• Supporting and ensuring the successful implementation and commissioning of distribution equipment
• Support operations, maintenance, repair, replacement and expansion of the Distribution System.
• Investigate, analyze and solve a variety of engineering problems, including the more challenging and unusual, by developing engineering techniques, devising new approaches and/or applying existing criteria in new ways
• Provide technical guidance, instruction, and assistance related to the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and modifications of equipment
• Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent.
• P.Eng 
• Knowledge of distribution equipment up to 25kV
• Knowledge of Protection and Controls (P&C) for device settings
• Knowledge on how to perform load and short circuit studies
• Good written and oral communication skills are essential
• Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in Canada, Power Engineering preferred
